Our Story
Built in 1900 and lovingly renovated through the years, The Griffin House maintains vintage charm while also offering the advantages of a luxurious, modern home. We knew that with such incredible views came a responsibility to share them, and we began offering weddings in 2008.
Hosting events has helped us to maintain the historic grounds, pay our amazing team, promote local businesses, and fund our benefit concert series, a practice started by Claire Griffin in 2011 to pour back into our community. Just as time, water, and our lady The Wind have carved this Gorge, the work we do is an energetic dance with the earth around us—and it’s an honor and a joy to share it with you.
Our History
Before it was The Griffin House, the property was once a dairy farm, a fox farm, and even a prohibition-era speakeasy with a secret tunnel through the cliff! After spending many years abandoned, it came to be home to the Griffin family. Claire Griffin and her husband found the property in the 1980s, while windsurfing in the Gorge. At that time, it was the price of an expensive car—and so overgrown that you could hardly see the views. They lovingly restored it & enjoyed hosting parties on the lawn. It has always been a wonderful place to celebrate.
Our Wedding Philosophy
We don’t believe in cookie-cutter weddings. We want your celebration to represent who you are – not who we are. We believe that you should get to choose exactly how your day is going to look and feel. You deserve to hand-pick the individuals that are involved. After all, they will be present on the most important day of your life.
Our Mission
The Griffin House is proud to offer an iconic setting for exceptional, completely-custom celebrations. With our stunning views, intentionally-curated spaces, and unparalleled service, it’s our pleasure to help you craft a fully-immersive experience for transportive events and transcendent weddings.
